how to make the selection order showing the latest

I have tried to have the latest created article first by selecting the option in configuration but it does not affect the selected result...?
why?

All my recipes selection results are showing the oldest one first... I desperately need to inverse that! since we keep adding new recipes and it seems that the site still look the same because we have to go to the last page or selected items to see the newest recipes...

I finally find the way by picking "ordering" for item ordering in the configuration instead of "newest first" to get the latest selections to show first... it doesn't make much sense but it works ...
