Searching by Date was created by sa
Hi,

We've enabled the search by date range feature in the custom properties search box module.

However when we try to pick a date range, for example, dec 1st 2011 to dec 30, 2011, we get the error message: "start date must be equal or greater than today" which doesn't make sense...

Can you verify this problem?

Thanks

Sorry, I just noticed there is another thread about this: www.solidsystem.it/forum/8-cp-20-for-j16...-date-filtering.html

But the answer confuses me.

All my articles are dated in the past. This is would be the same for any news site since obviously you cannot report on news that hasn't happened yet. So when a user is searching by date, the intention is to limit the results to a certain time range in the past.

So i don't understand the use case where one would be searching for articles dated in the future? Was the intention for websites that use articles to post future schedules, like the travel analogy?
If so, i think searching the past would be a much more useful ability generally speaking.

The search by date as it is implemented now, can be used to search *events*.

"Created date" is used as beginning of event while "Finish publishing" is used as end of event.
The search answers the following question: find me all events that are active in the given period.

Why doesn't CP accept dates in the past?
Let's take the following example.
We have an event scheduled for Halloween: "Finish publishing" 31st October 2011.
Today 23rd January 2012 I ask CP to return all events between 1st September and 1st December 2011 (CP throws an error, but let's pretend it's possible).
You find the Halloween event among CP results.
You click on title, to view article details, and you get... *an error from Joomla*, because you tried to access an article whose Finish publish date has expired.

The search by date you have in mind would search only the "created date" and/or "last modified date", and would use a different logic.
