Custom Properties Menu problem

Trying to create a menu for my custom properties tags, but when it gets to

Bind to Custom Properties field(s)

The field is empty. There is tags created and published, am I missing something?

OK, I worked that out, but how do I stop the tags showing up in the blog_item view? Do I need to edit out php to remove them?

No need to edit PHP code.
Set parameter [Tags only in detail view] in CPTags content plugin to Yes.
