Hierarchical search è stato creato da cho
Hi,
I have V2.3 of CP component and I use the CP search and CP Tags cloud modules for search.
Unfortunately it seems that hierarchical search on categories is not supported - or at least I wasn't able to do it.
In Joomla for managing the content I did a hierachical category structure (a flat structure isn't an option due to the amount of articles).
In fact, I would like to bind the search configuration (search scope - "bind to categories") to the parent category (i.e. documents) and not to the individual childs. But doing this, the search won't find any elements. I have to bind the search config to the child categories directly.
But over the time, new child categories (i.e. additional doc's) were integrated into Joomla. Unfortunately, each time I make a new child category, I have to adapt the search scope in the CP search configuration of the module.
Is there support for hierarchical search?
Cheers
Chris

I confirm that current versions of Custom Properties require category to be explicitly selected - being them parent or children - for scope restriction purposes.
We made this design choice for performance reasons (as to avoid the need to linearize the category tree for every search, which is a computational burden).
This choice also allow more flexibility: you can select a leaf category in one branch and another leaf category in a different branch.
I agree that this choice have the drawback you are reporting: the need to adapt the search scope when a new child category is created.
We'll look again into this subject to see if a more comprehensive way to handle category scope restriction is doable and what's its computational cost.
